Buying Art Makes You Sexier.
By: Carlos "Chuleta" Herrador

A recent study shows that buying art may make you sexier. “According to our research people are more attracted to other people who purchase works of art,” says Dr. Franklin Cartagena, who heads the study at the university of FEO. “There’s something that changes in a person when they finally decide to take that step and either buy a painting or a sculpture.” The study was conducted on 100 subjects, none of which had any experience or affiliation with art. They were split into two groups, with one of the groups sent out to purchase artwork. Of the artwork group half were told to buy local art while the other half were told to buy art from out of town. Then, in true speed date fashion, each test subject met individually with each other for 10 minutes. They were then asked to rate how attractive the other subjects were based on that interaction. The results, Dr. Cartagena says, were astounding. “ We found that of the group that bought art 68% were more attractive. On top of that from the part of the group that bought local art the attractiveness level rose by 86%.” Dr. Gabriel Velasquez, a psychoanalyst who specializes in human behavior, reviewed the results. He says that the purchasing or art, much like working out or buying nice clothes, enters into the factor of confidence. “Buying art is a status symbol. It tells people that you are stable enough to purchase objects that really have no function other than visual stimulus,” says Dr. Velasquez. But Dr. Cartagena thinks it is something deeper than that. “We don’t think it’s something that trivial. The results are way to impressive to have an answer so simple. We will continue to study and research these findings.“ So what’s next? Dr. Cartagena hopes that these studies will open further investigations into the benefits of buying art. “This is just the tip of the paintbrush. Who knows what else art is capable of. If we can unlock the essence of what art does to people our possibilities would be limitless.” Dr. Cartagena is advising everyone to buy art, especially from your local artist. He says that it not only makes you more attractive but you are also doing a civil service. He has personally started his own collection, purchasing only from friends or friends of friends. “It’s been working so far,” he says, “every time I buy a new piece it seems like more and more woman turn their heads when I walk by. I’ve even caught some men looking.” For more information on Dr. Franklin Cartagena and his research visit The University of FEO website.

See enough horror and experience enough pain and you become separated from your self.

An artist must create as often as possible. To cease this task is, to the soul of an artist, as ceasing to breathe.
